How it works

  1. Send your dates. Use the form. It takes a minute and opens WhatsApp with your request written out.
  2. We ask the companies. We message the San Pedro companies to find who has a cart for your dates, and at what price.
  3. You pick one. The company confirms with you, delivers the cart and you pay them directly. No fee from us.

What a golf cart costs in San Pedro

Most companies charge $35 a day or $175 a week for a 4 seat cart. The cheapest start at $30 a day. 6 seat carts run $50 to $91 a day. A few companies charge up to $79 a day for newer carts or extras like a lockable trunk.

Read what's included. Some companies quote their base price and then add the 12.5% sales tax and a few dollars a day of insurance, so a $30 cart can come to about $39. Others include tax, insurance, a full tank and the bridge pass. When we send you options, we give you the total.

Prices go up and carts sell out over Christmas and New Year, from late January through March, and over Easter week. September and October are the cheapest months.

Do you need one? It depends where you stay

Ambergris Caye is about 25 miles long, and hotels spread from 14 miles north of town to 5 miles south. Hotel addresses usually tell you where: “3 miles north” means 3 miles from the center of San Pedro.

  • In town: you can walk to restaurants and the docks. Rent a cart for a day or two to see the island.
  • South of town: paved roads and plenty of restaurants. A cart is handy for the whole stay.
  • North of the bridge: resorts like Alaia, Reef Haven and others up the coast are a long walk or a taxi ride from town. Most guests rent a cart for the whole stay. Roads get bumpy the further north you go.

What you need to rent

  • A valid driver's license from home, carried with you while driving.
  • A credit card. Some companies take a card imprint instead of a cash deposit.
  • The minimum age is set by each company, often 18 or older.

Tips for driving a cart on the island

  • Always lock the cart. Turn the wheel all the way before locking so nobody can push it aside.
  • Don't park at red curbs, even faded ones. The ticket is about $25.
  • Carts have no turn signals, so use hand signals.
  • Return the cart with the gas level you got it with. A week of driving usually uses one tank.
  • Take a photo of your cart's number. Most carts look alike.
