Option 1: fly

Tropic Air and Maya Island Air fly small planes from the international airport (BZE) to the San Pedro airstrip (SPR), in the middle of town. Flights leave roughly every hour and take 15 to 20 minutes, low over the reef.

  • Book online before you travel, especially from Christmas to April when flights fill up.
  • Leave at least 90 minutes between your international arrival and the domestic flight.
  • If your international flight is late, both airlines usually move you to the next flight.

Option 2: taxi and water taxi

  1. Taxi to the water taxi terminal. The terminals are in Belize City, about 12 miles from the airport. Airport taxis charge a set fare of about $25, plus about $5 for each extra person, and the drive takes 20 to 45 minutes. San Pedro Belize Express also runs a shared shuttle for $25 for the first person and $10 for each extra person.
  2. Buy your ticket and check your bags. Big bags are checked at the terminal. You can buy tickets at the counter with cash or card, or online ahead of time.
  3. Ride to San Pedro. San Pedro Belize Express and Caribbean Sprinter run the route. The trip takes about 90 minutes and stops at Caye Caulker on the way. Expect about $35 to $55 one way.

Watch the time. The last boats leave Belize City at about 5:30 pm, and it gets dark early, around 5:15 pm in December. If you land after about 3 pm, fly instead.

Option 3: private charter

For groups of six or more, a private boat from a marina near the airport can work out. It costs from about $600 per boat and depends on the weather.

When you arrive

The airstrip and the water taxi docks are both in town. Taxis wait at both. If you're staying north of the bridge, it's easiest to have a golf cart waiting: most companies deliver to the airstrip or dock for free. Compare prices on our San Pedro golf cart rental page, or ask with the form.
